Except for me, the entire staff of Bilegrip has resigned. Not in disgust with Bilegrip, but in disgust with politics in general. "Why," they asked in unison, "should we waste our time commenting on the kakistocracy of arseholes who run this fucked up nation?" The hypocritical outrage of Howard and his henchmen over Kevin Rudd's dinners with Brian Burke has proven to be the last straw.
Yep, enough is enough. Either Kevin Rudd will go on to win the election, whenever it is called, or he won't. If he does, Australia will slowly restore it's integrity. If he doesn't, it will be more -- and worse -- of the same.
Between now and then, the embarrassment of having to listen to or read the ravings of the worst government in history is, quite frankly, beneath our contempt.
In short, fuck it.
I'll remain until such time as I get a second wind and start talking about real life, or someone else takes over.
To prevent an accumulation of comment spam during the upcoming hiatus, I'll be turning comments off the morning of Friday, 9 March.
Cheers,
Olney Garkle
While I completely understand your disgust, might I say that now is completely not the time to spit the dummy?
This is a big part of the problem in Australian Politics and Society, the Uglies strategically befoul the environment because their coprophilic tendencies confer selective advantage to them, and they end up with the field to themselves.
How does the adage go " For evil to triumph, all that is required is for good men to do no(blog)thing"
Then there's the old typing practice sentence " Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party/nation".
It will be sad if you do desert the field, but if you have to, please don't give up the fight completely, there are other blogs where you can make a more casual contribution,
Sincerely, GoodToBeWithYou

Sorry to hear this news,Olney.
Bilegrip provides a light of sanity to return to when the madness gauge is peaking.
Like at the moment, when rodent and fellow travellers are in full flight with media hacks providing unlimited oxygen.
To read yesterdays orstralyan editorial or watch this mornings inslyders is enough to make you vomit.
Piers Hackerman would cheer on the government if they took to ordering shooting of unarmed civilians on the street.
I am also forced to take a break at the moment because my proper computer is in surgery. Hope to see you back and fighting on the barricades soon.

Thanks for the comments. One or more of us have been at this since 1994 and it must be said that one or more of us have spat the dummy several times. But this is just too absurd. Taking a step back always helps and sometimes you can clearly see what a waste of time it all is. In the face of eternity Bilegrip is less than a blip's little toenail. The Australian electorate is going to have to sort this one out. We've said all that can be said over and over ad nauseum. Still, when out and about, anyone who looks, smells or feels like a JHP supporter will receive my personal, unabridged wrath. But words on the page I've just run out of.
Cheers ...

Chin up old chap - you've done more than can be be reasonably expected - if you feel like a break take it! There are some people you cannot help and the critical percentage of Australians who will believe anything are most of them. Howard cannot get away forever with his undisguised contempt for the mass of Australians. The Stock Market is sagging, the long debt-fuelled spending spree is coming to an end and the bills will be coming in shortly. This would not be a matter for celebration in normal circumstances but only the harshest of medicine will purge the carefully fattened masses of their folly.
I don't suppose anybody will actually starve and most us will only be getting what we deserve. Pity about the rest of us but I doubt if anyone will actuall starve. If the playground antics of the failed solicitor and his cohorts win them another term in power they will be holding the bag when the shit hits the fan. Now that was an interestingly mixed metaphor but what the hell? Good luck Olney and the rest of the staff at Bilegrip. Don't fall down any disused mineshafts.

Olney, is the rumour true, before you turn off the comments for a short while, that Harold Hark ended up in Gitmo?
Posted by joe2 on March 5, 2007
It may still prove to be the zenith of the Howard dark ages. The campbell stunt comes across as extremely opportunistic, sly and tricky.
Don't you want to at least wait and see what opinion polls suggest about the whole kerfuffle? (i know, i know, polls are not to be trusted, but they'll give us some indication of voter sentiment on the subject, won't they?)

Maurice, all the vomit is gone with nothing left but dry heaves.
Joe2, it's Chet LaMerde who may be in Gitmo, but Hark is still floundering in Europe. I've received a few "dispatches" (all quite old now) and may post them one day -- need a lot of editing. Glad you reminded me. BTW I believe Willikers is hanging out with Sufi-types in Turkey.
Gianna, Today's polls look good. There is a palpable anger out there against Howard. Maybe the electorate will finally wake up and bury him and his pit bulls. He's looking more and more like Ceaucescu.

Damn! Just when I was starting to warm to this site. But doesn't this play right into the hands of The Rodent and the Ratshit Brigade? Cui bono, and all that... OTOH, being a serial quitter myself, I totally understand the despair. Good luck, best wishes, and thanks for the memories...
